Autumn's
4th Birthday
January 25, 2006
The fall and winter have been cold and dry, for San Diego at least.
Autumn continues to be a little princess. She now has a half-dozen
princess dresses to choose from. Given a chance, she'd wear them all
the time. We make her put on regular clothes for preschool, but the
moment she gets home it's "Can I wear my princess dress?"
We've got quite the girly-girl on our hands.
Fall was spent mostly settling into our new home. We
didn't do any major trips except some smaller ones: an SCA
campout, Disneyland,
Legoland, and
Flagstaff for Christmas.

Disneyland was great! Way better than last year's fiasco
trip to the emergency room. We met up with Cathy's Sophie, and
Melanie's Libby and Lark. It was a lot of fun. We went around
in California Adventure on the first day, and then Disneyland Park on the
second. Autumn really enjoyed the rides, even the fast ones, but was
scared of the yeti on the Matterhorn. At 38 inches tall there were a
number of rides she couldn't do, but that wasn't a problem for the most
part.
It was wonderful to see the other kids from our adoption
travel group. Sophie and Autumn looked a lot alike, and people kept
asking us if they were twins.
The only down side was that my digital camera had broke
two weeks earlier. I used a disposable camera but the pictures came
out pretty lousy. My camera took two months to get fixed, so
Christmas and Autumn's birthday weren't photographed. :-(

We
also managed to get to Legoland. It's not far from here, but like Seaworld
(and unlike the San Diego Zoo), it's a pretty expensive place to visit.
But they had a special for Southern California residents, so off we
went. Autumn, Randal, and Rachel all had a good time there. It
was part of their Halloween festival so they got to do a little trick or
treating as well.

Christmas
in Flagstaff was nice. Autumn loved seeing her grandmothers again,
and all the other relatives as well. The best part was when Autumn
asked Lise's grandmother to pick her up, she replied, "I'm just your
old grandma, I can't pick you up." To which Autumn said,
"Well, I want my new grandma!"

We
did the family portrait thing, for the Thomas side of the family. We
got most everyone in there, missing was the Baltutis group, Carol and Paul
and their three kids. Autumn was very good and sat patiently on
Grandma Thomas's lap the whole time, and smiled wonderfully with every
shot.
We drove to Flagstaff and back, and the trip
went pretty well -- although I was sick with some sort of stomach bug on
the way back. Autumn now has a portable 7" DVD player to watch
movies on. She still, however, asked us many times why it had to be
such a long time between Flagstaff and home.

Autumn's fourth birthday was held at the local Chuck'E
Cheeses. There was another little girl from preschool having her
fifth birthday on the same day, so we combined them. Lise and
Autumn had a good time (I was out of town on a business trip). We
did a dinner with our friends as well, but Autumn was so tired from the
day's activities she zonked right out before the dinner was over!

a good plan."
