Our Referral!

"There came to port last Sunday night
The queerest little craft,
Without an inch of rigging on;
I looked and looked--and laughed.
It seemed so curious that she
Should cross the unknown water,
And moor herself within my room--
My daughter! O my daughter!"

- George Washington Cable,
The New Arrival

The call came on my cell phone at 2:29 pm on Tuesday, January 21, 2003.  Exactly 14 months to the day since our dossier was mailed.  The other end of the red thread has been revealed: our daughter.

Wu Dong Xia

Our child is currently residing at the Wuhan Child Welfare Institute in Wuhan city of the Hubei Province.  Her first name, Wu, is the name given to all the children of the orphanage.  Dong is 'winter', while Xia is 'rosy clouds'.   She was born on January 15, 2002, and was left at the orphanage three days later.  We've missed her first birthday, but we won't miss any more.

Healthy, extroverted, and stubborn ('willful' suggested a coworker), our Capricorn Metal Snake likes music, the outdoors, and as of October 14, was exactly average in height and weight for a Chinese baby.

Holt International is shipping out the referral package via FedEx tomorrow.  Once it arrives her photo will be placed here.  We are so excited and overjoyed.  Words cannot express the overwhelming emotion we are feeling.
